The National Magazine Awards for Digital Media 2011 finalists have been announced by Sid Holt, chief executive of the American Society of Magazine Editors.
The awards will be presented on March 16th, 2011. Nicknamed the Digital Ellies because of the Alexander Calder stabile "Elephant" given to winners, the ceremony will be held at the Hilton New York.
There are 12 Digital Ellies categories this year and 100 publications that submitted entries. The judge's panel of 93 industry leaders included editors from Conde Nast, Hearst, Meredith, Rodale and Time Inc.
Launched in 2010, the Digital Ellies award excellence in categories such as design, the mobile edition, the multimedia package, podcasting and online department in digital media, among others.
This year the nominations, consisting of 39 titles, include 9 exclusively online publications; receiving nods are The Daily Beast, Slate and Yale Environment 360, among others.
Nominees that received multiple nominations include: The New York Times Magazine, with three; Sports Illustrated, also with three; The New Yorker, with two; and Epicurious, which received two nods. Media companies with more than one nomination include: Time Inc., which received a total of 9; Conde Nast, with 7; the Slate Group, also with 7; Hearst Magazines, with 3; and CBS Interactive, which received 2.
