The impact of digitalization on mass media will be discussed at the PDA Conference in Israel
Thursday, 03 March 2011 09:09

The Organizing Committee of the 20th International PDA Conference on Print and Electronic Mass Media Market Now and in the Future continues to work on expanding the conference content. Based on input received from the conference participants, one of the conference topics will be the development of modern digital technologies and their impact on traditional mass media.

Conference participants will have an opportunity to support or oppose the somewhat popular view that Internet is destroying traditional distribution

markets for print mediasuch as newspapers, magazines, books; as well as making it impossible forpublications to survive due to sharp decline in advertising revenues and emerging media formats.

As part of this conference topic, the problem of monetizing Internet content through advertising, pay-per-view, and subscription, will be discussed as well. None of the three ways is currently dominant or universal.

Also, a detailed discussion on the prospects of new platforms, designed for digital content consumption, will be facilitated at the conference. It is likely that the new platforms will be evaluated positively. But they can also get some negative evaluations. Publishers were hoping that iPad would revolutionize the way digital content is purchased, however it has not happened and that made some of them a bit more sceptical when it comes to new platforms.

Market conduct analysis of well-known companies such as Adobe, Zinio, PressDisplay will be made available at the conference. The distinctive characteristics of their activities as well as strengths and weaknesses of their business models will be discussed.

Particular emphasis will be put on ways to motivate the content manufactures, ways to consolidate the interests of content consumers and manufacturers as well as determining the right place for social networks under the new circumstances and other similar problems.

Conference Organizing Committee is accepting additional proposals. Please e-mail requests for your reports, speeches, presentations to be included in the conference agenda.
