Internet threatens Russian TV ad market

Internet advertising could overtake TV in terms of volume in Russia as soon as next year.

Data produced by the Association of Communication Agencies of Russia (AKAR) and published by Kommersant predicts that the country’s ad market will grow by 13-14% this year to a record R400 billion (€5.74 billion).

Yandex rolls out Korolev neural net search algorithm

Yandex, the popular Russia-based search engine, has upgraded its search platform by implementing an upgraded version of its deep neural network search algorithm dubbed Korolev. Additionally, the company implemented Yandex.Toloka, a mass-scale crowdsourced platform which feeds results into Yandex’s machine learning ranking algorithm, MatrixNet.

Russia readies its crackdown on Internet exchange points

Russia’s Communications Ministry has published draft amendments that would introduce new restrictions on the ownership of Russia’s Internet exchange points, prohibiting domestic ISPs from connecting to exchange points that belong to other states, foreign citizens, or foreign companies and organizations, the news website TJournal reported on Wednesday. The law would also limit foreign ownership in any company that owns an exchange point to 20 percent.
