A Look at NatGeo’s Multiyear Deep-Dive Into Food

Theme issues aren't anything new for publishers, but National Geographic is building out an entire product line and set of partnerships off of a magazine series on the future of food.

The series, which saw its first piece run in the May issue, is being packaged as a microsite and iPad app along with original Web video and TV content, and interactive features. And it's going experiential with exhibitions and other face-to-face events across the country.

CTC Media requests for a suspension of the law on foreign capital in the media

Holding appealed to the Ministry of Communications and the Ministry of Economic Development with a request for an annual suspension of the new law, which limits the percentage of shares of foreigners in the Russian media.

CTC Media holding’s management (CTC TV, "Domashnij", "Perec", CTC Love) has asked the Ministry of Communications and the Ministry of Economic Development to help with a suspension of entry into force of the law on the limitation of foreign capital in the Russian media. In letters to the heads of ministries Nikolai Nikiforov and Alexei Ulyukayev it is requested to consider the possibility to add the amendments to the law to the State Duma that would make an exception for public companies, whose shares are traded on foreign stock exchanges. Desired delay for CTC is 1 year, until January 1, 2017. This was reported to "Izvestia" in CTC Media, a fact of handling confirmed in the ministries.

Russian newsprint export recovers

The export of newsprint is crucial to Russian pulp and paper industry. Catering to the global markets has been a traditional source of income for Russian pulp and paper mills for a long time. However, there was a significant decrease in export volumes over the past two years. For instance, the shipments fell by almost 25 percent in the first three quarters of 2013 year over year. In 2014 the situation started to improve. Pulp and paper plants began to target the emerging economies. As a result, in the first three quarters of 2014 the sales volume increased by 13 percent to 873,400 tonnes. The value of exports grew by 15 percent to $470.35 million.

From April the 1st the title will be present in the Officials and Delegations lounge and VIP lounges.

The "Izvestia" daily expands its distribution territory. Effective April 1 the title will be present in the official delegations lounge, departure and arrival VIP-lounges, business lounges and other business terminals A, C, D and F at Sheremetyevo Airport, in the halls of Vnukovo, Pulkovo Pulkovo-3.

The title will be also on a board of «Alitalia» - Italian airline, the largest air carrier in Italy and the fifth largest in Europe.

Russian Internet economy is expected to rise

The volume of the Russian Internet economy will grow at the end of 2014 by 30% to 1.43 trillion rubles, according to the report of the Russian Association for Electronic Communications (RAEC) "Runet Economy 2013-2014". The number of people employed in this sector in 2014 will increase by 20% to 1.44 million persons, the report said.

As is predicted in the study, most segments of the Internet in Russia will slow it’s growth. Thus, the volume of media advertising market in 2014 will grow by only 7% to 24.6 billion rubles, while in 2013 it was increased by 20%. Segment of contextual advertising will increase by 28% to 72.9 billion rubles, while in 2013 it had risen to 52%.
