Russian businessman opens fund to support independent media

A new foundation devoted to supporting independent media in Russia is now accepting applications from independent media outlets in need of financial support. The fund, called Sreda (meaning "environment"), has been created and financed by scientist and businessman Dmitry Zimin, founder of popular Russian telecommunications company Beeline. With a budget of 50 million roubles ($1.4m), the foundation will split its sponsorship between three successful applicants, who will receive different amounts of funding in accordance with their needs.

The best-selling magazines and newspapers in the 1st half of 2014 are determined

"CONSULT-CENTER" has completed a study of printed media for the 1st half of 2014. In the magazine segment in the first half of 2014 as the best-selling was recognized the nationwide urban TV Guide "Antenna-Telesem" from the JSC "InterMediaGroup" publisher. Sold circulation of one issue of TV guide throughout the first half of 2014 was the largest in the Russian market.

USPS Increases FYQ3 Revenue by 2 Percent With $2 Billion in Losses

The United States Postal Service reported more bad news today when it revealed its fiscal third quarter net loses equaled $2 billion, dramatically higher than the $740 million it lost in the same period in 2013. That now makes 21 out of the last 23 quarters in which the USPS has recorded a loss. Although, the two quarters without losses were due to Congressional reschedulings of prefunded retiree health benefits.

The situation has deteriorated around the press stalls In Moscow

Many market operators contracts for placement of press objects are set till the August of this year. Market participants had received verbal assurances from the department of media and advertising in the city of Moscow that existing the contracts will be extended at least until the end of this year, as a work on a new concept of press distribution in the capital and new models newsstands is still going on in Moscow. However, this assertion on the fact proved untenable. 

On July 17, 2014 a field meeting was held organized by the Strogino district council for entrepreneurs of retail trade. At this meeting it was announced that if the Department of media and advertising of the city of Moscow will not decide on the future of kiosks, distributing printed materials untill 09.01.2014, entrepreneurs will be required within 3 days from the date of termination of the contract for accommodation NTO independently take away their kiosks from the district area.

RossiyaSegodnya Campaign to Support Missing Photographer Stenin Kicks off in Moscow

#FreeAndrewcampaign initiated by the International Information News Agency RossiyaSegodnya to support its photographer Andrei Stenin, who went missing in the combat zone in Ukraine’s east, started in Moscow Sunday.

Volunteers are distributing photos taken by Stenin with a call to support demands for his release in social networks. The campaign is taking place near RIA Novosti information agency headquarters next to metro station Park Kultury, in Pushkin Square and at the entrance to Gorky Park. Some 5,000 photos are expected to be handed out.

Beer ads back to the stadiums in Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law allowing to advertise beer in Russian stadiums, the document is published on the official website of legal information.

According to the document, advertising of brewers and beverage are allowed to be placed at the stadiums during the official sports events,  on TV during sports broadcasts and  in specialized printed publications.
