Moscow’s Presnensky District Court has registered an appeal against sentence handed down to famous Russian blogger Anton Nosik in extremism case, the court’s spokesperson Anna Pylina told RAPSI on Tuesday.

British MPs launch ‘fake news’ inquiry to examine ‘threat to democracy’

The “growing phenomenon of fake news,” which has been labeled a “threat to democracy,” is to be the subject of a parliamentary inquiry.

The Culture, Media and Sport Committee is launching an inquiry into the “widespread dissemination, through social media and the internet, and acceptance as fact of stories of uncertain provenance or accuracy.”

Star Magazine Discontinues SlimFast Ads After BBB Challenge

American Media, Inc. has agreed to discontinue certain advertisements that ran in weekly celebrity magazine Star amid claims that they don't live up to industry transparency standards.

In response to a complaint filed by the Better Business Bureau's National Advertising Divsion (NAD), AMI announced that it will no longer run SlimFast advertisements in Star using a format considered by NAD to be insufficiently differentiated from editorial content, misleading readers.

It's the first time NAD, which typically reviews claims made in advertising, has held a publisher responsible for the way native advertising is presented, according to a spokeswoman.

Top Russian Cyber-Security Agent to Face Treason Charges

A top cyber-security specialist in Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) has been arrested on charges of treason, the Kommersant newspaper reported Wednesday.

Sergei Mikhailov, deputy chief at the FSB's Information Security Center (CDC), stands accused of receiving money from “foreign organizations,” Kommersant reported, citing unnamed FSB sources. Mikhailov has been detained in pre-trial detention since December 2016, alongside Ruslan Stoyanov, the head of cyber-crime investigations at Russia's Kaspersky Labs.

Russian Media Is Triumphant in Aleppo, As Palmyra Falls

As Moscow achieves heroics in Aleppo, the West sabotages Russia’s diplomatic efforts at the U.N., and actively aides terrorists in Syria and Iraq. Also, everyone except Russia is to blame for the fall of Palmyra.

Russia is the only force that’s fighting the “radicals” in Syria, unlike its Western counterparts, which are paralyzed by inaction and indifference to the suffering of Syrian civilians. Not only that, but the West is even sabotaging Russia’s diplomatic efforts at the U.N., and actively aiding terrorists in Syria and Iraq. Also, everyone except Russia is to blame for the loss of Palmyra.
