Moscow joins celebrations of 500th anniversary of Belarusian book printing

Since ancient times the Belarusian land has been rich in eminent spiritual and cultural life representatives whose names are known all over the world. The major enlightener is Francysk Skaryna.

The Russian capital has joined the celebrations of the 500th anniversary of Belarusian book printing. Today, the business and cultural complex of the Belarusian Embassy held a round table discussion featuring writers, publishers, scientists and public figures from Belarus, Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. The participants discussed issues related to consolidating humanitarian cooperation in the CIS. The main topics were translating Skaryna’s works into the languages of the CIS member states, as well as preserving and distributing the heritage in the context of using modern technologies.

The current year in Belarus is dedicated to Francysk Skaryna, whose Book of Psalms — the first book published in the Belarusian language 5 centuries ago — is considered to have laid the foundation of Belarusian book printing. The anniversary has received a wide international recognition and is included in UNESCO’s calendar of significant dates.

Belarusian publishers are currently participating in the Red Square Book Festival in Moscow.
