In the spring session of the State Duma Amendments on Protection of Journalists will be adopted

The draft law on the protection of journalists working in hot spots can be passed by the Parliament in the spring session, said one of the authors of the amendments, the first deputy chairman of the Committee for Public Associations and Religious Organizations ("United Russia") Mikhail Markelov.

According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, in 2014 the world lost 44 journalists, among them: 10 people were killed in Syria, four - in Israel, five - in Iraq, six - in Ukraine, said the deputy at the plenary session of the State Duma.

"Out of the six (journalists, who died in Ukraine) - five of them were our guys ... It's time to make changes to the law on mass media. These changes have already been entered for a discussion in the House. The authors of the bill were representatives of all four Duma factions. I am sure that in the spring session we’ll came very close to the adoption of the law",- said Markelov.

According to the amendments to the Law on media, the employer must provide journalists by means of individual protection, identification mark "Press" (Press) and the international press identification, as well as to train personnel security measures in conflict zones. Also, is planned to conclude an insurance contract between employer and employee in the bill. Penalties for the employer for breach of this contract may be up to 400 thousand rubles.

In addition, it is proposed to introduce a voluntary genomic registration (storage of biological material for the identification of the person). The bill will also apply to those who accompany journalists on an assignment - operators, producers and others.
