Russian Internet economy is expected to rise

The volume of the Russian Internet economy will grow at the end of 2014 by 30% to 1.43 trillion rubles, according to the report of the Russian Association for Electronic Communications (RAEC) "Runet Economy 2013-2014". The number of people employed in this sector in 2014 will increase by 20% to 1.44 million persons, the report said.

As is predicted in the study, most segments of the Internet in Russia will slow it’s growth. Thus, the volume of media advertising market in 2014 will grow by only 7% to 24.6 billion rubles, while in 2013 it was increased by 20%. Segment of contextual advertising will increase by 28% to 72.9 billion rubles, while in 2013 it had risen to 52%.

Domains market volume, according to the forecast study will increase by 5% to 2.6 billion rubles, while in 2013 the growth was 15%. Hosting will grow by 11% in 2014 and 5.4 billion rubles, while the growth in 2013 year was 12%.

Segment of software as a service (SaaS) will increase by 28% to 5.5 billion rubles, that in 2013 the growth was 34%.

E-commerce and digital content market will not slow the growth rate. The largest segment will be in terms of electronic payments - it will increase in 2014 by 40% to 490 billion rubles (in 2013 the growth was 30% to 350 billion rubles).

The largest growth will demonstrate tourism segment - an increase of 45% (in 2013 was 27%) to 282.8 billion rubles. Internet retail segment increased by 30% and reached 478 billion rubles, while in 2013 the growth was 29%.

Growth in the segment of games will remain the same as last year - 22% - and this year will reach 42.7 billion rubles.

In the segment of books and media the growth will reach 65% to 0.99 billion rubles, the music will grow by 10% to 2.2 billion rubles, and video - by 9% to 3.5 billion rubles.

According to the RAEC forecast, an average annual market growth until 2018 will be 15-20% The study also predicted that Internet penetration in Russia in 2020 will reach up to 72% (in the summer of 2014 this figure was 62%).
