Department of Transportation is removing kiosks from the bus stops and interchange stations in order to optimize the traffic flow

As part of the program "Development of Moscow Transport System in 2012-2016" the Department of Transportation is removing kiosks from the bus stops and interchange stations in order to optimize the traffic flow.

Kiosks and small retail stores located in the immediate vicinity of the bus stops and along the public transportation routes attract other vehicles. As a result, not only does it slow down the traffic but also affects safety of passengers in the  boarding and disembarking areas. On top of it, Moscow residents often complain about the quality of the kiosk goods as well as the unhygienic conditions inside most of them. Taking into account all that, the Department of Transportation is suggesting a few changes to the already existing rules like prohibiting the installation of kiosks closer than 10 meters to boarding areas. The only exceptions to this new rule would be  public transportation ticket booths, newsstands, and theater ticket booths.
